K.C. Mendan

K.C. Mendan has been writing since childhood, inspired early on by the Anne of Green Gables series to see her own work in print. Though her first submissions to magazines like Australia’s New Idea were unsuccessful, she continued writing for enjoyment, later experimenting with playwriting in secondary college, where one of her plays was staged and published in the student magazine Inscape.

She then turned her creative focus to film, intending to study it at university, but shifted directions after lecturers advised her to gain more life experience.

During a seven-month family trip to Germany in 2022, she returned to writing, and in 2025 founded The Word Corner, an online platform for early-career and aspiring writers of all ages.

Believing stories to be both refuge and connection, she has long found writing therapeutic—especially in moments of loneliness—and now hopes her work and The Word Corner will offer others a place of solace, inspiration, and self-expression.
