Frequently Asked Questions
-
Generally, we begin with a free 30-minute Discovery Call where you will talk with our Content Editor and Head Publisher to talk about your self-publication journey, where you are at and what you would like to achieve. You’re also welcome to reach out even if you’re not sure what you’re looking for yet and we can answer any initial questions.
-
No. Many people who come to this work write alongside other roles or practices and don’t identify as writers in a professional sense. What matters is care for the work itself, not how you label yourself.
-
No. The platform supports writers of any genre, including work that sits between forms — essays, memoir, reflective non-fiction, hybrid or experimental work, and projects that don’t fit neat categories.
-
Not at all. The aim of The Word Corner is to provide a customised self-publication pathway, and the initial Discovery Call is where we will talk about where you are at, what you would like to achieve and how The Word Corner can support you.
-
No. Getting in touch does not create any obligation to publish or to continue with The Word Corner. Many writers find that even a single conversation brings useful clarity.
-
This work is not designed around speed, scale, or sales targets. The focus is on supporting the work the writer wants to make and finding a thoughtful way for it to exist in the world, whether that involves selling, showcasing or just supporting the writer in their individual endeavours.
-
Editing and manuscript assessment is an optional support service. Whilst every manuscript that is uploaded to The Word Corner does have to meet submission requirements and guidelines, there will be minimal editing provided as part of the review process.
-
The writer retains ownership of their work. Any publication arrangements are discussed transparently and agreed upon in advance. The Word Corner does not take any commissions from any sales. If a writer wishes to sell their rights to The Word Corner this can be discussed.
-
All writers benefit from the marketing and promotion The Word Corner does for promotion of the platform. If additional distribution support is required, this will be discussed as part of the Discovery Call and would form part of the options/recommendations sent through after the Discovery Call.
-
That’s completely fine. Writers can pause or stop at any stage. The process is designed to respect autonomy and changing circumstances.
-
Yes — particularly for work that doesn’t fit traditional academic publishing or is intended for a broader or different readership. If you are particularly passionate about making a topic more accessible to a wider audience this The Word Corner may provide an opportunity to do so.
