K.C. Mendan
Writer’s Biography
K.C. Mendan has been writing since childhood. After discovering the Anne of Green Gables series, she was inspired – like Anne – to see her own work in print. She submitted stories to magazines such as Australia’s New Idea. Though those early attempts were unsuccessful, she continued writing for her own interest and enjoyment.
In secondary college, she experimented with playwriting, and one of her plays was staged during the inter-house play competition. While it did not win, it was later published in Inscape, a student magazine showcasing the school’s creative work.
Following this experience, K.C. Mendan turned her focus to writing and directing for film and hoped to pursue a university degree in that field. However, after receiving advice from lecturers to gain more life experience first, she redirected her attention to other pursuits.
During a seven-month family trip to Germany in 2022, she began writing again. With the dramatic changes in technology and publishing over the past thirty years, in 2025 she also founded The Word Corner, an online platform for early-career and aspiring writers including children, adults writing for healing, or anyone seeking to share a story beyond themselves.
K.C. Mendan has always believed in stories as both refuge and connection: a way to explore the human condition, to find solace, and to inspire. This belief first motivated her playwriting and interest in film and later drew her back to the page. She found writing especially therapeutic when feeling alone.
She now looks forward to sharing The Word Corner and her written work, hoping the platform and her stories can offer others a portal to refuge and inspiration – a home for the self.
